Joey Dean– Senior Pastor
Over the past 12 years of ministry, the Lord has refined in Joey a deep desire to help churches become a place where people intimately connect with God and His people. He has a particular passion to establish, restore, and maintain families that are Biblically founded and center around glorifying God. Joey is a visionary leader who believes the foundation of any ministry lies in the integrity of its leaders, and places a high value on authenticity and relationships. Over the past few years, God has launched Joey on an incredible journey, deepening his understanding of discipleship as the key to growth and sustainability of the church. Joey’s central passion is building and equipping disciple-makers to start discipleship movements.
The Lord has blessed Joey incredibly by his wife, Allison, and his two wonderful children, Caleb and Hannah. Allison is a loving wife and mother, who strives to use her life/home to disciple other women, and help them see the Glory of God in their everyday lives. Allison has a myriad of talents and interests, but she can often be found in the kitchen making delicious cakes and desserts. Joey is an avid outdoorsman, as hunting and fishing are part of his family heritage; and he enjoys just about any outdoor activity. Above all else, the Dean’s approach ministry as a family calling- intentionally integrating discipleship into their lives, hobbies, and home in a transparent way that helps them to connect with people on a deep personal level.
Jason Rose – Pastor of Worship
Jason, a native of Minnesota, and his sweet wife Heather, a native of New Jersey, met during their college years in the Denver area. Jason and Heather now have 3 wonderful young children. Jason & Heather each started their journey with Jesus during their childhood years. Both Jason and Heather enjoy reading, being in the great outdoors, and spending time with friends and family. Jason has a heart for God and loves to lead His people in authentic and inspiring God-centered worship. Prior to Pagosa Springs, Jason led worship for several churches in the Denver area. Above and beyond the tremendous musical talent featured on his CD recording projects, Jason’s true gifting is to encourage and grow the Grace Family’s desire to delight themselves in the Lord, and to worship Him every day of the week. “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning! Great is your faithfulness O LORD!” Lamentations 3:22-23
Mark & Kathy Faber – Lifeteam & Children’s Ministry Directors
Mark and Kathy have overseen the Children’s Ministry at Grace since the spring of 2008. They have a love for children and a passion for helping parents pass on their faith to their children. The Fabers shepherd parents into greater involvement in their children’s spiritual growth and development, and oversee the children’s classes and activities at Grace. Mark and Kathy are long time residents of Pagosa Springs, and both have invested in the young people of our community in their work lives as well as through the church. Mark is a popular coach and sportsman, and Kathy is a beloved Kindergarten teacher.
Scott Johnson – Financial Coordinator
Scott and his wife Jan have been attending Grace Church for several years as part-time residents of the area. Upon retiring and relocating permanently to Pagosa Springs in 2011 there was an opportunity to become more active in the life of Grace Church when the elders asked Scott to assist in the budgeting process and financial coordinating. The role of Financial Coordinator is God’s way of drawing on Scott’s administrative strengths developed during a 37-year career in the mining industry.
Scott and Jan have two daughters, and four grandsons; Stephanie Pham, a speech pathologist in the local schools, and her two sons, live in Pagosa Springs. Theresa Anderson, her husband Buan and their sons, are TEAM missionaries in France and are supported by Grace Church.
Nicole and her husband Billy have been a part of Grace in Pagosa since 2010 and are an active part of church-life. Both Billy & Nicole serve on the Deacon Team and on a given Sunday they can be seen with their boys setting up and taking down for worship, playing and singing on the worship team, or running sound. Nicole has a degree in Social Work and has spent the past four years providing birth parent counseling and adoptive family casework for a Christian Adoption Agency. She is excited to draw on some of her social work skills in the church office and to serve her church family in this capacity. Billy works at Pagosa Springs Medical Center as the Purchasing Supervisor and is very involved in community recreation, coaching and refereeing many different sports throughout the year. Their three sons are very active in sports and school activities, keeping this family always on-the-go. One of Nicole’s favorite verses is Psalm 143:8 “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”
Amy Fair – Youth Coordinator
Amy recently completed her MA in Youth and Family ministries with a concentration in Counseling Ministries from Denver Seminary. During Seminary, she co-directed a youth ministry of middle school and high school students, and prior to seminary, she was the youth director at Grace for three years. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona Christian University in Phoenix, AZ. Both ACU and DS provided her the opportunity to study God’s Word while working with youth. She also ministered to the high school students at Forest Home Christian Conference Center in Forest Falls, CA and was the director of the mountain outdoor education program of Mountain and Sea Adventures serving third through eighth-grade students. Currently, along with her role at Grace, Amy is also the Principal of Pagosa Valor Academy (a University model School). Her love for youth and camp began during her family’s ten-year experience as the directors of San Juan Bible Camp in Mancos, CO. Amy has a passion and deep love for Jesus Christ and youth. The Lord has called her to serve Him by living out her faith. he does this by walking through life with students and teaching them the truths of His Word.
Joey Dean – “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:4-7
Jon Forrest – Jon and his wife Kim have lived in Pagosa Springs for 36 years and have seen the many changes and growing pains of this amazing mountain community. They have raised 4 children who have left and are all back “home” at this present time bringing some pretty wonderful spouses with them. They also have 4 grand boys and 2 princesses at this time.
Jon started his career as a grade school teacher, but realized that the mountains (hunting) and working with his dad building in Colorado was too hard to resist, so he and Kim loaded Nicole and all their belongings and moved to the Rockies from Phoenix, AZ. He now feels very blessed to own a family business “Forrest Construction – Bearfoot Garage Doors” with his two sons. Kim has worked for the Archuleta School District for 18 years and Jon was on the school board for 13 years. Jon still delights in playing and watching basketball, especially when it involves his kids and now the grands. Many years have been spent on bleachers.
You will find Jon mostly behind the scenes: making breakfast, setting up and taking down for worship, praying, reading in his chair or out helping someone in need. One of Jon’s life verses is “ By the grace given me, I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you”. Romans 12:3
Sam Hughes – Sam and Tina Hughes love serving our Lord as He leads, which led them to live in many interesting Middle and Far East overseas locations for 21 years. Yet, their favorite spot, without a doubt, is Pagosa Springs where they have had a home since 1999. They have been shaped by seeing first-hand just how small the world is and how big God and His love is!
Sam enjoys expository teaching/preaching, music and the mountains. Sam and Tina also enjoy pursuing spiritual formation (Tina has an MA in Spiritual Formation and Leadership), or simply put, the intentional practice of growing in spiritual maturity and Christ-likeness; and encouraging others in their own spiritual journey.
They have two wonderful sons, who live in Denver, both married to wonderful gals with three precious granddaughters! Their love for God and Grace Church is infectious.
Garry Lassman – Garry and his wife Bobbie relocated to Pagosa Springs in 2005. Garry, a retired lawyer, continues to enjoy hiking, skiing, and other outdoor activities. He serves on several non-profit boards and volunteers at the elementary school where Bobbie is a teacher. Church has been a significant part of their lives in which both served in various ministries and activities. They have four adult children and eight grandchildren. One of Garry’s favorite Bible verses is Michah 6:8. “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”
Dave Nasralla – Dave and Carole Nasralla met in their college days while they were both involved in Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. They moved to Pagosa from Chicago in 2001 for Carole’s work and ended up staying, after finding it a great place to raise kids. Their family has been involved with Grace Church since 2010. They have four wonderful children, who are actively involved in school, sports, theatre, art, and dance.
Though a software developer by trade, Dave recently finished his Masters in Counseling and now works in the public school system part-time and does some private counseling. Carole also works in town as a family physician. They volunteer in the public schools and are involved with many non-profit organizations in town.
Both Dave and Carole have a heart to see God work in their lives, as well as the lives of others, through the day-to-day joys and challenges that God brings to each of us. Their favorite passages include Psalm 131 and Psalm 22:5: “To you they cried out and were saved; in you they trusted and were not put to shame.”
Jason Rose – Jason has loved this promise from Psalm 91 ever since he was a boy: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my Name. He will call on me and I will answer him.”
Brad VanWormer – Brad and Kim have returned to Pagosa after first starting their lives together here in 1980. Brad grew up in Montana and Kim is a Colorado native. They are business owners of both Subway locations in Pagosa Springs. Married 28 years, they have 2 daughters and a granddaughter, all living in CO! With a love for physical activities and the outdoors, winter or summer, skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, and hobbies – music, jewelry making etc., Pagosa is home! They love one-on-one, and small group discipleship time with others and the incredible discovery of coming to know Christ more intimately. In Brad’s own words, “Now, life’s greatest fulfillment comes in walking with the Lord daily, starting the day out with Him and His word, talking with Him and submitting myself to His direction. I am purposed to share my faith in Jesus Christ. Sometimes it comes with saying something, other times it shows up through an act. Of all the excitement and thrills I’ve enjoyed in various sports, nothing is more fulfilling than the adventure of following a spirit directed life, spending time helping someone new in their faith or someone who has been ‘sitting on the fence’ get off the fence. God’s peace has become an incredible experience I have only enjoyed since turning my life over to Him.”
